President Obama Declares It's "Time To Turn The Page"

Most of you we are sure watched U.S. President Barak Obama's address to the nation tonight.  If you have not -- The Shadow will provide the video below.

As for our thoughts on it....well that is a different story.....

After seven years in combat in an unpopular war that was started by former President George W. Bush -- the combat mission in Iraq officially ended today at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.  During this seven year stretch, we saw the fall of Baghdad and the capture of former President Sadam Hussein.  We saw President Bush declare -- prematurely we might add -- that our mission was accomplished in Iraq.

Over 4400 American troops lost their lives and thousands of others have been injured.  But, the president kept a campaign promise and removed all combat troops from the country, leaving 50,000 troops in the country for advisory purposes.  They will be leaving sometime in 2011.

President Obama acknowledged in the speech that he had spoken to former President Bush earlier today although it is not known what the two men had discussed.

It was time for this conflict to come to an end.  And we are glad that it finally took place.

In terms of who was right or wrong, or whether or not the surge worked or not, is not important at this point.

What is important is that the Iraqi people can now plan their own destiny.  The United States will be there to advise Iraq but at this point, Iraq's future is in the hands of its elected government.

We do wish them the best.

So what did you think of the speech tonight?

Good night and good luck.
